Why Clean Your Vape Tank?
Over time, e-liquid residue, sweetener buildup and dust can accumulate inside your vape tank. This can lead to muted flavour, poor vapour production and even a stale taste that carries over when you switch to a new e-liquid flavour. Regular cleaning prevents these issues and helps your coils last longer.
When Should You Clean It?
You should give your tank a clean:
- Every time you replace your coil
- When switching to a different e-liquid flavour
- If the flavour starts tasting off or muted
- At least once a week for daily vapers
What You'll Need
- Warm water
- A small bowl
- Paper towels or a clean cloth
- Optional: a small amount of dishwashing liquid or unflavoured vodka for deep cleaning
Step-by-Step: Standard Clean
- Disassemble your tank — Remove the tank from your device. Take out the coil and set it aside (you can reuse it if it's still in good condition). Separate the glass, base, top cap and drip tip.
- Rinse under warm water — Hold each component under warm running water for 30 seconds to a minute. This removes the majority of e-liquid residue.
- Soak if needed — If there's visible buildup, place the components in a bowl of warm water and let them soak for 15–30 minutes.
- Dry thoroughly — Pat each piece dry with paper towels and then leave them on a clean surface to air dry completely. Make sure there's no water left before reassembling, especially around the coil connection point.
- Reassemble — Once everything is bone dry, put your tank back together with a fresh or existing coil, fill with e-liquid, and let it sit for a few minutes before vaping.
Deep Cleaning Method
For tanks with stubborn residue or when switching between very different flavour profiles (like going from a strong menthol to a fruit flavour), a deeper clean can help:
- After the warm water rinse, place the disassembled components into a bowl with a drop of unscented dishwashing liquid and warm water.
- Let them soak for an hour.
- Rinse each piece thoroughly under running water to remove all soap.
- Alternatively, soak components in unflavoured vodka for 30 minutes — the alcohol helps dissolve stubborn residue and evaporates cleanly.
- Rinse with water and dry completely before reassembling.
What Not to Do
- Don't use hot or boiling water — it can warp seals and damage o-rings.
- Don't submerge your coil in water — this ruins the wicking material. Just replace it.
- Don't reassemble while components are still wet — water in the coil connection can cause issues.
- Don't use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
